The Wavy Side-Ponytail!

It’s Friday… and what better way to finish the week, but with a weekend hairstyle!! :)

This week’s hairstyle is inspired by Vanessa Hudgens because she is a fashion icon and always looks amazing! This hairstyle is a Wavy Side-Ponytail, and the great thing about this hairstyle is that it doesn’t take long to create, it’s really easy and it can be worn during the day, at work or on a night-out!

We love Vanessa’s Boho Chic look, she can really pull it off! We think that Vanessa’s cosmic print maxi skirt is fab, she’s accessorised it with a black top and a black hat – A fab look, especially for festivals!

To create Vanessa’s Wavy Side-Ponytail, just follow the following steps:

1. Blowdry hair using a Denman D74 Hot Curl brush. This brush has a heat-retaining barrel which means that it is perfect for creating natural waves/curls in the hair. Also it won’t damage your hair as you won’t be using any curling tongs, so it is a lot safer.

2. Once your hair has been waved/curled through blowdrying add some texturising spray to your hair and ruin your fingers through your hair.

3. Gather your hair around to one side of your hair and secure with an elastic, just below your ear.

4. Gently tug at your side ponytail to loosen it so it isn’t sitting perfect and it looks a bit messier.

Will you be trying out the wavy side-ponytail this weekend?

Cannes Film Festival 2012!

The Cannes Film Festival is an annual event held in France, which previews new movies and documentaries from all over the world. The festival will take place from the 16th may to the 27th May.

Last night the stars arrived on the Red Carpet … and of course, there was a little competition on the best dressed! :)

Eva Longoria looks stunning in a very detailed fishtail gown which had a feathered train at the bottom! The dress also had a see-through back which showed off her figure. We love Eva’s glamorous up-do - to create this hairstyle, backcomb the front sections of your hair using the Denman D91 Dressing Out Brush and scrape it back into a loose bouffant. Gather the rest of your hair into a low ponytail and twist it into a French Twist. Pin the twist to your head and finish with hairspray.

Diane Kruger looked like a Greek goddess in a beautiful mint green dress which has a sheer piece of material falling from her left shoulder. Diane wore her hair up in an elegant bun and accessorised her look with diamond earrings and bracelet. To achieve Diane’s elegant bun, use a Denman D82M Boar Bristle Brush to smooth the hair back into a high ponytail. This brush will also add gloss and shine to your hair. Once your hair is secured into a ponytail, slot the ponytail through the bun ring and begin to take small sections of the hair to wrap over the bun ring to hid it and pin in place. Once the hair from the ponytail has completely hidden the bun ring, finish with hairspray.

Freida Pinto, looked beautiful in a multi-coloured corset which had a pink gathered skirt with a spilt up the middle. A great look for Freida, and we love that she has accessorised her look with a silver belt and heels. Freida’s hair was also scraped up into an elegant up-do!

AHHHH… it’s nearly here!!! We’re so excited about the brand new film ‘Snow White and the Huntsman’! This movie has a much darker twist than Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, as the huntsman who was supposed to be the one to kill Snow White becomes her mentor and protects her. The film stars Charlize Theron as Queen Ravenna, Chris Hemsworth as the Huntsman and Kristen Stewart at Snow White – An awesome cast!!

Monday night was the world premiere of the movie where the cast all made their way down the red carpet!

Both Kristen Stewart and Charlize Theron wore gothic glamour dresses!

Kristen Stewart wore a black lace dress which had a sheer skirt. The dress also had a skeleton design on the arms and back of the dress which really made it stand out! Her hair was scraped up into a bun and secured with a gold ribbon! To create this hairstyle we recommend using the Denman D91 Dressing Out brush to backcomb the front of your hair. Once this has been backcombed, gently sweep it back into a bouffant and secure with bobby pins. For the rest of the hair, gather it into a ponytail and use an elastic too create a bun. Pin the bun to your head using bobby pins and to secure it. Finish with hairspray.

Charlize Theron… STUNNING!! She also wore a black sheer dress by Christian Dior Couture and she looked amazing in it!! She wore her hair up with a twist at one-side and had smokey eyes for her make-up.

Who do you think is the Fairest Of Them All??

What To Expect When You’re Expecting!

What To Expect When You’re Expecting is based on a book which follows 5 couples who are all expecting a baby! This movie has been talked about for nearly a year now, especially since we heard the cast line-up: Jennifer Lopez, Cameron Diaz, Elizabeth banks, Anna Kendrick, Chace Crawford, Matthew Morrison and cameos including Cheryl Cole and Whitney Port!

We’re very excited for this new movie coming out in cinemas on the 18th May! Last night was the Hollywood Premiere, where the cast dazzled on the red carpet!

Jennifer Lopez (J-Lo) looked stunning!! She wore a daring floor-length dress by Maria Lucia Hohan and accessorised her look with sparkling boots, clutch bag and jewellery. J-Lo has her hair swept back from her face in a low ponytail. Use a Denman D82M Boar Bristle brush, this will smooth the hair and get rid of any bumps and it will add shine and gloss to your hair.

Cameron Diaz went for a completely different look in a LBD (Little Black Dress). Cameron wore this with cream heels and black earrings, which was a great idea because you don’t want to over accessorise your look.

Anna Kendrick went for a very sparkly short dress which she looked fabulous in! Anna is best known for her role as Jessica in the huge Twilight movies! Anna’s hair looked natural and wavy which was a great look for her! :)

Elizabeth Banks wore a very dramatic red dress with black lace detail – and really worked it!! It’s another very different dress for a red carpet event but she has stood out from the crowd!! To create her hairstyle: backcomb the front of your hair with a Denman D91 Dressing Out Brush. Once it is backcombed, scrape it back and twist it into a bouffant and pin it into place. For the rest of the hair gather it into a low ponytail and twist it up into a French twist and secure it with bobby pins. Tuck away any bits of hair sticking out and finish with hairspray.

‘What To Expect When You’re Expecting’ is out in cinemas on the 18th May!

Lea Michele has shot to stardom since her huge role in the fabulous tv show Glee! Glee already has 3 seasons and they are already planning a 4th season. Lea Michele plays one of the leading roles, Rachel Berry, who’s dream is to be on stage in broadway.

Lea arrived at LAX airport and had fans waiting for her to sign an autograph! She looked absolutely thrilled and was more than happy to sign an autograph!

Not only that but she looked amazing in a black and blue shirt with black leggings and a Louis Vuitton bag! Lea always has gorgeous hair and as you can see from these pics it is super glossy and straight - a great look for her!

To create Lea’s hair without using straightening irons, we recommend using the Denman Squargonomic brushes to blowdry your hair with. These brushes have a square barrel which means that you can use the edge of them to enhance straightening performance and give you more volume.

A Tribute To Vidal Sassoon…A True Hairdressing Legend!

Source: thisislondon.co.uk

Vidal Sassoon is the ultimate hairdressing legend and he will go down in history as ‘the man who changed the world with a pair of scissors’.

Vidal Sassoon died on the 9th May in his home in Los Angeles but will not be forgotten…he will remain one of the best-known hairdressers of all time.

Not only was he a hairdresser but  also an artist, inventor and inspiration to many other hairdressers. ‘If you don’t look good… We don’t look good became Vidal’s mantra for college students and salons all over the world.

Vidal Sassoon opened his very first salon in 1954 in London and is best known for his geometric and asymmetrical cuts which brought an end to the 1950′s bouffant styles that were extremely trendy back in those days. His new styles and trends allowed women to be freed from the heavy beehive hairstyles and made short cuts acceptable to wear. Vidal said “Women were going to work and assuming their own power. They didn’t have time to sit under the dryer. My idea was to cut shape into the hair, to use it like fabric and take away everything that was superfluous.”

Source: hollywoodreporter.com

The British fashion designer, Mary Quant, who popularised the mini-skirt in the swinging sixties, was one of his best-known clients. Quant called Sassoon the “Chanel of hair”.

Denman International is deeply grateful to Vidal Sassoon for changing the architecture of hairdressing and blow-styling forever. It was Sassoon who put Denman brush on the map globally. Vidal Sassoon insisted on using a Denman brush to blow-dry the bob. The 5-row, 7-row and 9-row Denman brushes with the closely-set pins were the only tools he used to sculpt those sleek smooth hairstyles. To this day, all stylists training at the Vidal Sassoon Academies must use Denman brushes and all of his salons across the globe exclusively use Denman.

Please see below some Tributes that were paid to Vidal Sassoon on Twitter. He will be deeply missed by everyone in the hairdressing industry.

Mark Woolley
“RIP Vidal Sassoon. You paved the way for the rest of us!”

Sassoon Academy
“Our craft has lost a creative genius and an amazing human being. We will honour your memory by dedicating ourselves to the work you loved”

Andrew Collinge
“With Dad tonight who is reminiscing about the late, great #VidalSassoon. Both #fellowshipforbritishhairdressing members since 1950″

Denman International
“The staff at Denman are very sad to hear of the passing of Vidal Sassoon – a hairdressing legend, who will be deeply missed in the industry”

Britain’s Got Talent – Best Dressed Judge

Source: dailymail.com

Every night this week there has been a battle for which judge from Britain’s Got Talent has the best style!! Last night Amanda Holden and Alesha Dixon both wore dipped-hem dresses but in two very different styles!

Amanda Holden got everyone in the summer mood when she wore a lemon and lace dress that was slightly see-through. She accessorised her look with lemon and cream shoes to match and a sparkly silver belt. She looked fab!! Also we love her hair in bouncy curls, it gives her a very feminine and girly look! To create Amanda’s curls why not try our Denman Medium Self Grip Hair Rollers. These rollers are easy to wind into your damp hair and they have self-grip which means there is no need for bobby pins to hold it in place. Blowdry with a hairdryer or let your hair dry naturally. Once your hair is dry unwind the rollers from your hair and set free your bouncy curls!

Alesha Dixon wore a sci-fi looking dress, completely different to Amanda’s! We really like the dress… but we’re not too sure about the heels!! We like that Alesha has taken a risk with her outfit and it has certainly paid off!! Alesha has put her hair up into a Top Bun! Why not try out this hairstyle yourself as it’s pretty easy to create. Scrape all of your hair back into a high ponytail. Insert the ponytail through the Bun Ring and begin to pin small sections of the ponytail over the bun ring. The hair from the ponytail should hide the bun ring completely.

Who do you think is the Best Dressed Judge?

Kate Middleton’s Glamorous Dress!

The Thirty Club is a meeting which consists of 30 members both men and women to discuss advertising and the media. Each meeting features a guest speaker and this month, Prince William followed in the footsteps of many royals and made a speech. Kate Middleton also attended the event to support William!

 Source: dailymail.com

We think you’ll agree with us when we say that Kate looks amazing!! Firstly that dress is stunning – a design by Roland Mouret! It’s a very simple but yet very elegant dress! We love that it has a high neckline but also a thigh-high split up the middle! Kate accessorised her dress with crystal Jimmy Choo Vamp shoes and a matching clutch bag!

Kate’s hair was in her iconic style – loose waves and curls. This look never gets old and Kate definitely carries it off well.

To re-create Kate’s loose curls, use the Denman D76 Extra Large Hot Curl Brush to blowdry your hair. This brush has a heat retaining barrel which means that when you are blowdrying your hair you can use the barrel of the brush to add curl to your hair.  Once your hair is completely dry, gently backcomb the roots of your hair with the Denman D91 Dressing Out brush to give you some volume.

What do you think of Kate Middleton’s dress?

ProEdge Comb is a hit at the Major League Barber Competition!

Source: web8.b.examiner.com

The Major League Barber Competition is where the most talented and top barbers in the nation battle it out for the 2012 Super Barber Cutting Competition. This competition took place on Sunday 22nd and Monday 23rd April at the International Beauty Show (IBS) in New York. There were two categories ‘Colour & Design Cuts’ and ‘Conservative & Traditional Cuts’ and a trophy for 1st, 2nd and 3rd places for both categories.

IBS New York proved to be another successful hair show for us with our extensive range of hairbrushes, combs and accessories available to buy, as well as live educational demonstrations of the ProEdge comb and E-Meche Colouring System. The Denman team were kept busy throughout the show due to the large crowds of professional hairdressers and barbers.

Roger Wigmore (inventor of the ProEdge comb) provided educational demonstrations of the ProEdge comb to any stylist/barber passing by the Denman stand. The ProEdge Comb has taken the hairdressing and barbering industry by storm by re-defined the art of scissor and clipper-over-comb hair cutting. The unique ‘cutting ledge’ is the key to fast and precise cutting, as it accurately positions the scissor/clipper for a smoother and steadier cut. A real must-have product for any student kit!

A major highlight of the show proved to be the Major League Barber Competition, in which Roger Wigmore entered the ‘Conservative & Traditional Cuts’ category and was awarded 3rd place! This is a huge achievement for both Denman International and Roger Wigmore himself, not to mention the ProEdge Comb!

The Metallic Ladies!!

Lea Michele looked stunning in a fabulous navy dress that has a slit up the middle and a low cut neck line.

Lana Del Rey wore a Joseph Altuzarra dress that almost looked like a disco ball! A great look for Lana! :)

Jessica Alba wore a gold metallic one shouldered dress which she looked amazing in! We love her side-swept hair-do!

To create Lana Del Rey and Jessica Alba’s gorgeous curls we recommend using the Denman Large Self-Grip Hair Rollers! These rollers are easily to wind into damp hair and don’t need any bobby pins to secure them in place. Use the hairdryer to speed up the process or if you have a few hours you can just let your hair dry naturally in the hair rollers! Once your hair is completely dry, unwind your hair from the rollers and spray with some hairspray.

Scarlett Johansson wore a very glamorous Dolce and Gabbana gold embellished dress, with a netted bottom. We love this dress! :)

Emma Stone wore a very detailed red dress by Lanvin! We love that Emma has gone for a short dress to be completely different and we think that she completely rocked this look! Why not take a tip from Emma and glam up your hair with some Denman Hair Accessories

Rihanna in a crocodile effect dress by Tom Ford! A very unusual dress but we think that this fashion trend will catch on… after all if Rihanna wears it… we’re pretty sure everyone else will! What do you think??

The Worst Dressed of the Night!

Source: dailymail.com

We can’t believe we are going to say this but what was Beyoncé’s thinking! We’re not a big fan of the see-through parts and the purple feathers on the bottom… not one of our favourites! :( However… it is a fashion event… so Beyoncé definitely got a lot of attention in that dress! Do you love it or hate it?

Kristen Stewart’s dress isn’t the worst that we’ve seen but those shoes aren’t the best choice!

Source: dailymail.com

Sarah Jessica Parker… Oh Dear! From playing the character Carrie Bradshaw we thought that she would’ve wore something a bit more exciting!

Florence Welch… We don’t really know what to say!!

Christina Ricci’s dress could’ve been really pretty if it didn’t have the huge fan with material draping down behind her!
